Tarn et Garonne
in South-West France, is an attractive ‘petit mas’ built in 1727, with walls of local golden stone, offering privacy and relaxation . It stands in an acre of land : in season figs, plums, mulberries and cherries can be picked. The south-facing terrace has a shaded area, which is very pleasant to sit under on hot days. The double insulation in the house combined with the stone walls guarantees that it remains cool on the hottest days. The pool itself, overlooked by the terrace, is salt-based, with an effective heating system when needed.
The house itself is full of character, with spacious rooms, original terracotta tiles in the lounge, open fireplace, and ancient beams. It has two en-suite bedrooms, sleeping 4/5, and a modern kitchen and dining area. The modern furniture is in keeping with the house, supplemented with a TV, DVD player, radio and plenty of books and local maps. The off-road parking has space for three cars.
There are good local leisure activities for children – sailing, pedaloes and swimming at the junction of the Tarn and Garonne rivers, and a sandy beach and snack bar in the other direction. Large supermarkets are available within a 15 minute drive.
Travel to the house is convenient: the nearest airport is Toulouse, under an hour’s drive away; Exit 8 on the A62 Autoroute is under 10 minutes’ drive, so that driving from the UK, Ireland or northern France is easy. The nearby countryside, in the Upper Bordeaux wine region, has rolling hills, small lakes and rich farmland. The nearby village has a Michelin-ranked restaurant, L’Auberge de Bardigues, where local wine can be enjoyed.
