Janet is entirely self-taught and became an artist almost by accident after a career in journalism and public relations.
“I was trying to encourage my then five-year-old daughter to enter a painting in our fabulous parish show,” she recalls, “but she refused to do it unless I entered something too…so I borrowed her paint set and set to work. Needless to say, I didn’t win any prizes that year, but I was hooked.”
Living in a pretty village in the heart of the Oxfordshire countryside, Janet does not have far to look for inspiration.
“I feel so fortunate to live in an area so rich in wildlife and natural beauty,” she says. “The animals and birds native to the British Isles may be rather more unstated than those found elsewhere in the world but, to me, they are every bit as beautiful.”
Janet works predominantly in acrylics and soft pastels. As well as her wildlife and landscape pieces, she paints pet portraits and cites seeing people’s faces light up as they unwrap a painting of their much loved animal as one of the most rewarding parts of her work.
